Countdown calculator
Count whole days until a date, or how many days ago a date was.
What the result means
A countdown is the number of midnights between two calendar dates. It does not include hours and minutes.
How it is calculated
Days = |end − start| in whole UTC days
- From / Until: Calendar dates.
The difference uses the same day-count as the date-difference calculator’s total days.
Assumptions
- No time of day. Timezone is the date you typed.
Worked example
19 August 2026 to Christmas 2026
A simple countdown.
- Days
- 128
Use Australia/Sydney “today” if you are typing this on the day — the default is a worked example date.
Same-day is zero
If both dates are 25 December, the countdown is 0 — the day has arrived, not “1 day to go”.
Questions
Why not hours?
Event start times need a timezone. This tool stays on dates so it cannot silently use the wrong zone.
