Estimating the cost of running an appliance
Energy is power over time. A 2,000 watt kettle running for 0.2 hours uses 0.4 kilowatt-hours. If usage is 32 c/kWh, that boil costs about 13 cents.
The daily supply charge on an Australian bill is a connection fee. It does not change because you boiled the kettle, so leave it out of an appliance estimate. Use the usage rate that applies at the time the appliance runs.
The electricity calculator scales a single use into daily, weekly, monthly and annual figures from how often you run it.
